Token Ring 3000/iX Network Link Customer Presentation
The following four slides present the HP 3000 local area networking
strategy and describe the Token Ring 3000/iX Network Link product.
Use the following script as a guide when presenting these slides.
1) "HP 3000 Local Area Networking Strategy"
The purpose of this slide is to illustrate the HP 3000 commitment
to support multiple LAN types.
Point to Stress --
HP 3000 is committed to support multiple LAN Types - IEEE 802.3/
Ethernet, 802.5 Token Ring, and in the future FDDI. The objective
is to provide the customer with the flexibility to select a LAN
Technology the best meets their business needs.
2) "Networking Foundation: Local Area Networking'
The purpose of this slides is to highlight that the HP 3000 can be
easily integrated into the customer's existing LAN network.
Point to Stress --
Regardless, of the customer's existing LAN network the HP 3000 can
be easily integrated. This capability protects the customers existing
LAN network investment.
3) "Token Ring iX"
This slide illustrates the features available at first release for the
Token Ring 3000/iX Network Link product.
Points to Stress --
The Token Ring 3000/iX Network Link product provides a native Token
Ring connection for HP 3000 HP-Precision Bus systems. The Token Ring
adapter is a single-high HP-Precision Bus card that supports either
4Mbps or 16Mbps line speeds over Shielded Twisted pair (STP) and
4Mbps line speed over Unshielded Twisted Pair cabling. The Token Ring
product provides connectivity using either the TCP/IP transport or
Novell Netware's IPX transport. The product also supports networking
applications developed using NetIPC or Berkeley Sockets. The supported
services include; Novell Netware, LAN Manager, FTP, NFS, and NS. In
addition, the product includes the SNMP Agent capability for managing
the HP 3000 in a multi-vendor network environment.
Note: HP will support 16Mbps line speed over UTP once a standard has
been established. Future releases will include support of SNA over
Token Ring (1H93).
4) "Benefits of Token Ring iX"
This slide describes the benefits of the Token Ring 3000/iX Network
Link product for the customer.
Points to Stress --
By adhering to IBM's industry-standard Token Ring networking protocol,
the customer can directly connect a HP 3000 system into an existing
Token Ring network. This plug-and-play capability not only helps make
the product easy to install, but also protects the customer's existing
networking investment. Additionally, providing a native Token Ring
solution can translate into cost savings for customers who are no
longer required to rewire or purchase a bridge or router to connect a
HP 3000 into a Token Ring network. Since the Token Ring adapter card
supports 4Mbps or 16Mbps line speeds, customers can have an easy and
cost effective migration path as their bandwidth requirements grow.
